FAQs for Used Equipment
Should I put a filter on my air compressor?
Yes. In most cases, it's worth installing a filter on your air compressor – particularly for heavy-duty industrial tools. Filters are designed to remove moisture, dirt and oil from compressed air before it reaches equipment. This helps protect your tools from wear and tear and eradicates damage to internal parts. If you’re only using an air compressor for simple DIY tasks such as inflating tyres, it’s not as crucial to invest in an air filter. If you’d prefer to chat with an expert about whether a filter is necessary for your equipment, get in touch with Air Supply UK today.
What is a compressor water separator?
An air compressor water separator is a device that’s designed to remove moisture from the airstream before it reaches connected equipment. As air is compressed, it naturally produces condensation. Without a water separator, that moisture can travel through the airline and into tools. Over time, this can lead to rusting and the corrosion of air-powered equipment and even shorten its lifespan. To remove larger amounts of moisture, you may require a compressor water separator and an air dryer working simultaneously.
How often should you change a compressed air filter?
As a general rule, most filters should be replaced every 12 months. However, this also depends on how often you use your compressor and its environment,Compressors operating in dusty conditions may need their filters changed sooner than yearly. Over time, debris can accumulate inside the filter and clog it. This is a clear sign your filter may be due for replacement.
How does an oil-water separator work?
Oil-water separators are designed to remove moisture and oil from compressed air. First, a centrifugal force spins the air inside a chamber. This pushes the water droplets and oil particles towards the chamber walls, where they stick to the sides. Next, a coalescing filter captures the mist still in the air, encouraging tiny droplets to coalesce into larger ones. Once they’ve gained enough weight, gravity pulls them down to the bottom of the chamber. From there, the collected liquid is then drained away. Air Supply.
